Researchers of the Hodinka Antal Research Centre for Linguistics actively participated in the conference “Virtual Aspects of the Linguistic Landscape”, held on 30 April 2026 at J. Selye University (Komárno). Staff members of our institute joined the event online.
The conference focused on current issues in linguistic landscape research, with particular attention to language use in both physical and virtual spaces. The event was structured into three thematic sections covering language policy, education, as well as the interdisciplinary fields of internet linguistics and marketing linguistics. Researchers from our centre contributed as presenters in Section 1.

In their joint presentation, István Csernicskó, Rector of the university, and Adrienn Vig examined the social role of the linguistic landscape in physical and virtual spaces, with particular emphasis on language rights and accessibility in Transcarpathia. In their presentation, Kornélia Hires-László and Ingrid Lőrinc analysed the relationship between Ukraine’s decentralisation process and the linguistic landscape of Transcarpathia, highlighting language hierarchies in administrative spaces. Krisztián Váradi delivered a presentation entitled “Investigating Language Contact Effects in Social Media.”

The conference provided an excellent professional platform for presenting and discussing the latest research findings. Participation contributed to strengthening the institute’s scientific collaborations and enabled our researchers to engage more actively in the international scholarly discourse on linguistic landscape studies.

The Hodinka Antal Research Centre for Linguistics remains committed to playing an active role in both national and international academic life and to making its research findings accessible to a broad professional audience.
