Programme title: Development of Hungarian Name Variants for the Public Place Names of Berehove
Year: 2015
Brief description: Following an official request from the Berehove City Council addressed to the college, we developed an official Hungarian–Ukrainian and Ukrainian–Hungarian list of the city’s public place names, including street names and the names of squares. In connection with the list, we also prepared an expert opinion on the bilingual use of public place names, with reference to the relevant international and Ukrainian legal framework. The main outcome of the project was a database that could be used by the City Council in preparing newly installed and replacement street-name signs. The database was also deposited in the archive of the Antal Hodinka Research Centre for Linguistics.
