The Hungarian Academic Council of Slovakia invites all interested participants to the unveiling of another memorial plaque on Saturday, 12 September 2026. This time, the event will take place in the village of Ladomírov, where the memory of historian Antal Hodinka (1864–1946), a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, will be commemorated.
The memorial plaque is being erected jointly by the Hungarian Academic Council of Slovakia and the Municipality of Ladomírov, with the support of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The event is particularly significant because the plaque honouring Antal Hodinka will feature inscriptions in three languages—Hungarian, Rusyn, and Slovak—reflecting the multi-ethnic cultural and historical heritage that characterised both his life and his native region.
Participants will be welcomed by the mayor of Ladomírov and András Mészáros, an external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and former president of the Hungarian Academic Council of Slovakia. This will be followed by laudations in Hungarian, Rusyn, and Slovak, after which the memorial plaque will be ceremonially unveiled. The organisers are also preparing a short cultural programme.
The invited guests will include István Csernicskó, president of the Hungarian Academic Council of Transcarpathia, and Kornélia Hires-László, director of the Antal Hodinka Linguistics Research Centre. Their presence is particularly meaningful, as they will attend the ceremony as representatives of the Berehove-based Antal Hodinka Linguistics Research Centre and the Hungarian Academic Council of Transcarpathia.
The Antal Hodinka Linguistics Research Centre of Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian University was established in 2001 as the Ukrainian institution of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ network of Hungarian linguistic research centres outside Hungary. The Centre is a member of the Termini Research Network and maintains close professional relationships with Hungarian linguistic research institutions throughout the Carpathian Basin, including the Gramma Language Office in Slovakia and the Szabó T. Attila Language Institute in Cluj-Napoca.
A delegation from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences will also attend the event. It will be led by academician Károly Kocsis, chair of the Presidential Committee for Hungarian Science Abroad of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The delegation’s presence will further enhance the academic and community significance of the occasion.
Antal Hodinka was an outstanding figure in Hungarian historiography and a pioneer in the study of Rusyn history and cultural history. His scholarly work created an enduring legacy, and in 1910 he was elected a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. By erecting the memorial plaque, the Hungarian Academic Council of Slovakia pays tribute to his scholarly legacy while also contributing to the preservation of the memory of an eminent figure from the region.
