Brief description: Youth Research is one of the oldest continuously implemented research programmes of the Antal Hodinka Research Centre for Linguistics. The various studies were launched in 2001 and have since been conducted in four-year cycles, making it possible to monitor the social situation, living conditions, value orientations and future perspectives of Hungarian young people in Transcarpathia over the long term.
The aim of the research is to contribute, on the basis of empirical data, to a better understanding of social processes affecting young people and to provide a professional basis for youth policy, educational and community development decisions. In light of the war situation in Ukraine, the most recent research cycle (2024) employed a methodology different from the quantitative data collection used in previous cycles. Through in-depth focus-group interviews, it examined young people’s everyday experiences, coping strategies, sense of uncertainty and expectations concerning the future. The findings of the Youth Research programme are regularly published in academic studies, professional publications and the research reports of the Centre, thereby contributing to the continuous expansion of the knowledge base concerning the region’s youth.
