Program title: International Programme Science for the Hungarian Language – Hungarian Terminology Strategy Subprogramme
Year: 2024–2026
Brief description: The Hungarian Terminology Strategy Subprogramme was launched in December 2023 within the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ National Programme “Science for the Hungarian Language”. The Termini Research Network’s workshops and institutes also joined the Educational Terminology Subproject. Within the four-year project, an educational terminology database will be developed that will match Hungarian terminology related to all levels of education with the state-language equivalents used in the neighbouring countries (Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria and Slovakia). In 2024, linguists from the Termini Research Network and terminologists from the HUN-REN Research Centre for Linguistics extracted 849 terms from Hungary’s national public education legislation and translated them into eight languages: Ukrainian, Romanian, Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, German, Slovak and English. In 2025, the project continued with terminology from higher education legislation.
